The Honourable, Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State today received in courtesy, a delegation of football stakeholders in Nigeria led by Mr. Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) and first Nigerian Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), leading to the finals of the AITEO sponsored female football tournament in the state which is holding today at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
Hon. Seriake Dickson congratulated Mr. Amaju Pinnick for his re-election as the President of the NFF stating that it was well deserved. The governor however expressed concern at the condition of the apex football body before his emergence and thanked the President of the federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for his timely intervention. The governor urged the NFF boss and his team to close ranks and ensure there was no re-occurrence of the past.
He equally appreciated the AITEO group for contributing to sports development in the state.
'I appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his intervention in the NFF affairs and urge you all to close ranks to prevent future re-occurrence.
' Bayelsa is the headquarters of sports development. We want to see more companies use sports as an instrument of positive sports development like AITEO group has done.
If our country must change, then all the states in the Federation must effect changes to contribute to the overall development of the country.'
The governor requested the NFF boss to support the Bayelsa Sports Academy, an education and sports institution, where young primary school leavers are trained academically and in sports and in the same vain urged that more high profile tournaments are hosted in the state as it will further add to the ongoing efforts of the government at sports development.
Although this is the first time Bayelsa State is hosting a national FA cup final that will be viewed by so many across the world, we don't want it to stop. We want more high profile tournaments hosted here in Bayelsa and so I encourage other companies doing business in Bayelsa to emulate what AITEO has done by sponsoring a tournament in Bayelsa
