A Ten member Bayelsa State stimulus implementation Committee has been set up.
It has the Finance and Budget Commissioner, Dr. Sylva Opuala-Charles as Chairman and the Head of Service, Reverend Obegha Oworibo as Secretary.
The others are the Commissioners of Local Government and Rural Development, Youth, Conflict Resolution and Empowerment Generation as well as that of Special Duties.
The rest are the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation, Special Advisers on Political Matters, Mobilization and Youth as well as the Chief of Staff, Government House.
Governor Timipre Sylva has inaugurated the committee in a ceremony that took place in Government House.
Governor Sylva who used the ceremony to unveil the Government six-point Stimulus package, called on stakeholders in the Bayelsa Project to embrace the package which is in response to the global financial crisis.
In his message titled “Why Are We Doing This”, Chief Sylva described the stimulus package as a project of necessity to ensure better living standards, provide employment and secure a brighter future for all Bayelsans.
According to him, the global financial crisis provided an opportunity for Bayelsans to re-examine the structure of the state’s economy and implement sustainable strategies that would cushion the impact on them.
Governor Sylva expressed optimism that the initiative would reflect positively on the people and increases their capacity to realize the vision to create a prosperous state.
He said it was the aspiration of government to make Bayelsa a prosperous, secure and united state, noting that the global crisis is an obstacle that must be overcome.
